BUYING GUIDE
What size skateboard deck should you get?
Choose a deck width that is proportional to your shoe size:
- If you wear men’s size 6.5 to 9, start out with a deck width of 7.5 to 8.0 inches.
- If you wear shoes 9.5 or larger, we recommend getting a deck between 8.0 and 8.5 inches.
Also, skaters who like flip tricks, manuals, ledges, flat bars and technical tricks usually prefer boards on the narrower side of the spectrum (7.75 – 8.25 inches).
Those who skate big bowls, handrails, or like to jump down large gaps and stairs are usually more comfortable with a larger board (8.25 – 9.0 inches).
Summary:
- 7.5" to 8" - Standard board for adult riders skating streets or doing technical tricks.
- 8.0" to 8.25" - Skating pool, parks, ramp, & rail.
- 8.25" and larger - Vert, cruising, and just going old school
TIP: There’s no exact science about deck size – only personal preference.
Concave
Mellow concave
The most popular deck preference is a “medium” or “mellow” concave. This design provides a sweet spot that’s not too flat, and not too steep. This creates a board that’s easy to catch, and flick without sticking to your feet. A medium concave is the preferred concave for flip tricks and street skating.
Steep Concave
Deeper curves establish a high, or “steep” concave. To recognize this, step on a board, and notice how your feet sink and grab onto the board.
The “pockets” of deck concave may produce better leverage (for flip tricks or turning) or more solid grip for feet near the nose and tail. Steep concave works well for transition skaters who like full control of their boards around sharp corners as this provides increased board feel. Are you looking for a poppy board? Then this design may suit you well.

Truck Size
Skateboard trucks are one of the key parts of every skateboard.
The size of your trucks can have a big impact on how well your skateboard operates. Even the best skateboards on the market won’t skate well if the trucks don’t fit the deck right.
